Ciara Twerks While Pregnant, Celebrates Black Joy In 'Rooted' Music Video

Ciara is dancing in the name of Black excellence in her new music video.

Thursday (August 13) saw the premiere of the singer-songwriter’s latest visual for her song “Rooted,” an anthemic record featuring Ester Dean that empowers Black people and others of color alike to express themselves through art and creativity.

The captivating 3-minute video captures Ciara embracing her natural Black beauty with full, blown-out tresses and baring her then-pregnant body—belly bump, curves and all.

A number of young Black dancers also bust their best moves in the video, which also incorporates powerful scenes of Black pride and those of Black love as the “Goodies” singer’s two children, Future and Sienna, make cameos in the clip. (Ciara gave birth to her third child, son Win, before the video’s release.)

“Young girl stay rooted/ I done plant my seeds now I'm rooted/ Brown skin poppin', I'm rooted/ Can't pull the hood out me, I'm rooted,” the mommy-of-three sings in the chorus, with her fist raised high in the name of Black pride.

As revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, all proceeds from the music video will go to support Grantmakers for Girls of Color, an organization dedicated to cultivating investments in support of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and Pacific American girls in the United States.

"I've been trying to figure out the best way to express myself during this time. It's a very crucial time within the world, within the Black community, and for me, as an artist with a platform, I'm like, 'How can I find my voice in this?'" said Ciara. "So when my friend Ester Dean played me this song, I thought, 'This is one of those perfect pieces to my puzzle of how I'm gonna express myself, and I want to express myself.' I've always said music is one of the most powerful forces on Earth, and it's a blessing to be able to do it."
