My boss said don't talk about politics on my blog. However, i'm pretty sure Akon is a musician and talking about him is completely okay ;).
R&b, Hip-Hop, & Pop artist, Akon recently said in an interview with Newsweek said that he is "seriously" considering running for president in 2020.
"I've been thinking about running for 2020 very seriously. But I didn't want to just do it because I feel like I want to continue doing what I'm doing and hope that builds me enough momentum [for people] to say, 'You know what, if you run we'll support you.'" - Akon to Newsweek
Now Akon has been very busy this past decade. Even without a breakthrough hit song, the man been on his grind and giving back to those in need, like everyone should(Yes I am looking at you!).
His project "Akon Lighting Africa" has provided power to hundreds of communities across 15 countries in Africa.
Akon also started his own Crytocurrency, "Akoin". You know the thing none of us really understand but go "REALLY! NO WAY" whenever somebody talks about it. The man is even wanting to create his own city "Akoin Crypto City".
I know people who struggle to keep a casino open and Akon is wanting to create his own city.
Here is my honest opinion.
Celebrities are doing amazing things. Lebron James opening a school. Sean Diddy Comes creating another charter school. These are not minor accomplishments and nobody can deny their effect on society. These are the leaders and individuals doing stuff like this are who should be brought into the White House to speak with the President and appointees. However, that does not mean they're fit to run the military, negotiate trade agreements, lead assaults on terriost groups, and protect the free world. They should be apart of the forefront to make the change in the world. Yet, they might not be the individuals who should oversee all of it. I feel as though we are quick to find somebody to believe in. We are so desperate that we want somebody who can come in and "save the day" and help make change, that we don't always think it through on who that person might be. If Akon runs, i'm not saying he won't win. I'm not saying he isn't worthy, but fame and recognition attached to your accomplishments are not requirements to be seemed as worthy to run the highest office in the world. He is on the right track though.
What do you think?
Would Akon be a good fit? Do you believe that he has what it takes?
