Hearts broke across the world on Tuesday when Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid announced their split. After rumors started swirling across social media that the two had called it quits, Zayn and Gigi confirmed the news. While they're no longer an item, the two made it clear in their statements about the split that they still care deeply for one another. Gigi even hinted at a reunion down the line, writing that "as for the future, whatever's meant to be will always be."
It's not surprise that Gigi and Zayn have left a possibility for a reunion open after their breakup. These two were clearly head over heels for each other during their relationship and never felt the need to hide that fact. Gigi even once declared Zayn the love of her life on Instagram, which honestly just makes this break up hurt more.
Despite calling it quits, these two clearly still love each other very much. The proof is in their statements about the split. Zayn shared on Twitter that:
Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and friend. She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time; we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all.
Gigi also took to Twitter to share similarly loving sentiments about her ex:
Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there really is no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years...not only in the relationship, but in life in general," she said. "I'm forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for.
Sigh. Even their break up statements are more romantic than anything I've ever experienced in my entire life. I'm not bitter, though, I swear.
Even though it's sad to see such a cute couple go their separate ways, I have to commend these two on their maturity and sensitivity. We all remember how Zayn's previous relationship ended and it's clear he's grown up quite a bit since then. As Gigi said, though, whatever is meant to be will always be...so keep those fingers crossed for a possible Zigi reunion down the line.
